Ok. So i haven't been keeping up to date with technology in the least bit as of lately, like past few years. Iv been very set with my current computer, yada yada yada.

So in about 8ish/9months i'm going to be going to college and i need a laptop, something i can easily port around cause obviously i'm not going to bring my computer with me to classes, haha.

So im looking into this website that does really good payment plans and such monthly however, im extremely confused. Whats the difference between a Notebook and Laptop. Like is there a huge difference or what?

Might be a stupid question but I rather have the answer then spend the money and find out its not what I wanted and be screwed seeing there's no refund unless its damaged.

There isn't that much of a difference. I think generally notebooks are smaller. Also, keep in mind that the smaller laptops are the more expensive they are also, at least for ones with good specs. When looking for a decent laptop you want to keep in mind what you want on your laptop like number of USB ports, what kind of hard drive, what kind of disc drive, presence or absence of certain extras like webcam, back lit keyboard, full size keyboard, etc. Another thing you want to keep in mind that if you are hauling this computer in you backpack all the time you might want a sturdy case. You might want to look online at the various computer brands. Allot of sights offer customizable laptops where you can choose what features you want. Lenova, Sony, and Dell I think offer some of a best options for customization. Personally my 2 favorite brands are ASUS and Lenova as they offer some of the best deals for specs. Sony's are decent but generally over priced. Anything from Toshiba, Acer, Dell, and HP are all pretty much the same; cheap, cheaply built with cheap parts. It all really depends on what you plan to use it for and how much you are willing to pay.

<- not a fan of notebooks personally, too small, just not as smooth imo as a good custom built (perferably if expense isnt an option) lap top.

whats the price range you could afford? and what kind of specific pourpases would you use it?like from entertainment to education...or?

In Australia, notebook just means no CD/DVD drive.
Compare the features side-by-side, you'll see other differences (screen size for instance).

The way prices are dropping (or more precisely hardware gets better) hang off for as long as you can before buying anything, so you get more for your dollar.
