Alright, so my mother is currently looking for a job as an at home medical end coder. This meaning, she's going to need a new computer. My dad and I have been looking, but I can't say that I would really know what to look for yet, since I'm not the most apt at selecting hardware on a computer yet :P

So, I'm asking you, all you people out there who are good with hardware, that'd be great. Here's what we really need.

- Internet capability (...that's gonna be a toughie  )
- A nice amount of hard drive space (Not needing a terabyte, but I'm doubting their old 40 gig would cut it.)
*She's going to need to fit end coder software, which is basically an electronic book as she describes it, though she's not sure how big it is*
- Good speed (She's going to have keep up with productivity, so it'd be nice if it could move faster.)

Now, I'm thinking the budget for my computer was about....700 US dollars? So, if we could keep it around there. I'm sadly not building this, but it'd be nice to be able to see some specs so I can find decent computers. Is it worth it to go to the new i3 processor and all that jazz. Stuff like that.

Finally, is it possible to install a second graphics card in a pre-built computer? If so, how hard is it? If I remember right, you need two graphics cards for dual monitors right? My mom wanted me to look into this as well, since it's easier for her to do her work with two monitors. So, how hard, and how expensive would this be?

Thanks for your time everyone, and your commentary and contribution is greatly appreciated :) If you need any more information, I will try my best to answer any questions you might have.

Uh... it depends on the motherboard the "default pre-built" computer have I guess.

You only need 2 graphic cards for two monitors if #1 graphic card only has -1- of those.. thingeys, I think most new graphic cards has 2 though~

All depends on what you will buy first <.< Just ask some store emplyee for guidance and double check on the internets imo

...if you read carefully that is sort of why I asked. She would prefer to have two monitors since it is easier for her to code that way.

Anyways, I'm asking here to get some insight from those members and ex-members who are actually professionals in this and could give me details on what I would probably need. I have done my research on the internet, and I'll probably ask questions towards the sales associate, but I'd still rather get input from certain individuals who I know are really good with hardware, as I'm sure you did not long ago when you were building a computer yourself ;)

The graphics card thing is a good question and will be dependant on the computer you buy.

If the motherboard has the graphics card built in then its likely to have one port on.. If it has a seperate graphics card then its likely to have 2..

Even so a second graphics card which is not for gaming wont be too pricey.

However do check with the manufacturer that there is a spare port to fit a seperate card regardless. A really budget computer may not have a slot for a seperate graphics card!!

Maybe go to a local store and look at the models you like then see if you can order them cheap online?

Alright, I'll make sure to keep my eye open for that, thanks Chantelle :)

my computer i built cost around $700. it runs great just took time buying the parts. I couldn't really tell you what my parts are, but I will ask my brother where the boxes are and mention them.

Ok, you did not understand what I wrote lol

As stated earlier most computers support dual monitors these days, its almost become the new standard. Since it's a budget PC I don't think you could go wrong with anything less then a duo core 2.4ghz or higher, 2gigs of ram ( 4gigs preferably for win7) and 250gb-1tb hard drive.

One thing you might want to check up on is making sure the software she plans on using is compatible with windows 7. Granted you can run programs in comparability mode in 7 but not all applications are upward compatible.
