For now. Note that they have said they will bring back '' crystal '' currency later. It's annoying, and frankly I believe it's just to hide low until the backlash is gone. I considered posting this on Falcon's EA topic, but I decided it might deviate too much from the topic.

Its a step in the right direction, but "...will become available at a later date" worries me. Does that mean "yeah they're gone for now, only to be reinstated in 3 months after the game's release"?

They clearly got the message loud and clear but history is not on their side. They have a lot to prove before I can believe they as a company have changed their ways.

I haven't read specifics about this yet, but if their progression system is still broken such that players are encouraged to pay for unlocks, then won't taking away microtransactions just mean that no one will be able to unlock anything in a reasonable amount of time? They've only fixed half the problem

Bear in mind that as soon as CNN took notice of this, as soon as Belgium and Netherlands investigated this as gambling, and also as soon as it as taken to reddit, EA announced this almost immediately. An optimist would say that the statement ".. the ability to purchase crystals will be added in a later date " could mean that they will remove the loot crate system entirely and only add crystals later to be effective for upgrading cards or buying future heroes. I doubt this is an honest decision to be better after so much public light was shone on the situation.

And to answer your quesiton, MM, progression isn't solid indeed. Though they have lowered the price of heroes, this doesn't fix the issue of the reward system giving the relatively same amount of small credits to all players regardless of K/D.

"Today, EA announced that it will be removing microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. However, this is only a temporary measure until EA can achieve what the company says is the "right balance" between those who want to progress through gameplay and those who want what they call an 'accelerated experience'."

" In a telephone conversation, an EA representative confirmed that the developers are going "back to the drawing board" in attempting to balance out Battlefront 2's microtransactions. Their ultimate goal is to find a way to balance the needs of their large playerbase, they said "

" In saying that they will try and strike a balance for those seeking an "accelerated experience," EA appears to be suggesting that Battlefront 2 will eventually return to offering the opportunity for players to spend money on accelerators—industry jargon for gameplay boosts that can be purchased with real money. "

There is hope tho, I dont think I've ever seen so many people come up together against a company and protested. I get it EA needs to make money to keep the servers up and other maintanances but this was just bad. Got everyone hyped with free DLC but sneaked a buisness model that mobile p2w MMOs rely on, and on top of that giving everyone the same ammount of loot at the end of a match no matter of you k/d stats is IMO done on pourpase to create a barrier not necessarly a pay wall but something to slow everyone down unless you pay to get the edge which so many people wont mind doing...
I told to myself even tho I want the game a lot I wont buy it until EA fixes all this mess (if that ever even happens)
