Well, I had a fun experiment today. I've got an old laptop with the following specs:

- Gateway, running Linux Mint XFCE
- Intel Pentium something-or-other
- no graphics card
- ancient

I installed Wine (a program that lets you run windows EXE on linux) and Jedi Academy onto it.
I installed OpenJK and JA++ onto Jedi Academy.

I set every single graphics option to the lowest possible value I could find.

Average FPS: about 15 - 40
Lowest FPS: ~4 when it feels like it
Highest FPS: ~65 staring into the corner of the map
EDIT: the fps above were on ffa3, the Tatooine map

I tried to take a video but the recorder crashed every time I started the game, so here's some screenshots:

as best I can tell, these are screenshots from a game of some sort, but further study is required

If I really, REALLY wanted to, I could make some SUPER low poly models of the characters so even a potato could run the game

Good work! No smoke or sparks?
I have gotten JA to work on many older and slower machines...
i kind of use it as a benchmark to see what the machine can do.

I also got this app called JK3Touch and I can play on my Android phone! which has NO problems with the FPS. It's just the interface is so different... i can't move or fight much at all (it's my fault for poorly understanding it).

I was digging through the Ecycling and found 4 mini embedded motherboards in these waterproof cases...
I got windows 7 to install on one...Haven't put JA on it yet Bcuz I had to move...

I could send you one if you want to experiment... It needs the connector set that allows you to connect to all the mini ports on the mobo, they are almost all mini, so you cant just use standard mobo connectors. :?

Oooh, that sounds like a fun project, but I'd be worried that it would go the way of my Arduino; collecting dust because the powerful machines distracted me :P

I'd recommend throwing a lightweight linux onto one of those, that way you'd have one that at least runs semi-decently well. :P

Yeah that is a good idea, U have any recommendations for which lite distro/version?? and then to get JA to run, i would need WINE,?

Also ... i didn't feel like spending too much on a compact flash card, over 32 gigs...

I could mount it in a waterbottle cage, get a 7 inch motorcycle lcd screen and put some buttons and joystick on my mountain bike! I'll be the first person in the world to play JA while riding my bike! :P
