1. The xbox one is not backwards compatible. Every 360 game you own will not work, and will never work on the xbox one. You will have to buy all new games.
2. The xbox one is not always online, but makes a connection check every 24 hours. My internet goes out fairly frequently, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, so when I am unable to play my pc and must turn to my (hypothetical) xbox one, I have a scant 24 hours to cram in as much gaming as I can before it goes out too.
3. The xbox one does not support used or even borrowed games. Any game I buy used, I have to pay a fee of full price in order to play the game on top of what I already paid gamestop or my friend to obtain a copy of the used game. Same goes for any game I borrow from my friends. Games are locked to a specific hard drive.
4. The kinect is always on. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not exactly comfortable with a camera and microphone seeing and recording everything I do. Also, the always on tech makes it possible for some really user un-friendly moves. For instance, say you are using the blu-ray function to watch a movie with 3 of your friends. A fourth friend walks by and wants to watch as well. The kinect sees that there are now 5 people watching the movie and refuses to allow you to watch unless you pay a fee (this is not an actual thing, but the tech is there to do it, that's all I'm saying).
5. The xbox one isn't a game console anymore. It runs games in addition to doing all this other crap like play movies and let me watch tv! Gee whilickers I'm glad I can do that now, I've been waiting 15 years to get an xbox one so I can turn on my tv. The xbox 360 gained microsoft the advantage because it focused on games and gamers. Now they're headed in the complete opposite direction, while ps4 is focusing more on the games and gamers.
I am getting a lot of this from this video:

This vid was made pre-E3, so some of the stuff may be wrong (I think his part about the exclusives is incorrect now, but idr), but he cites his sources on all his arguments. Also he spends a lot of the video yelling and swearing because he hates the xbox one so much.

1. Technically, the Wii U is only backwards compatible to the Wii and I believe the PS4 is only going to stream your games. Basically, backwards compatibility is double-edged sword. Sure, it would be nice to be able to keep all your games working on one console, but that adds extra price for emulation hardware and software. 599 US dollars anyone? Partial reasoning for that? The PS3 was backwards compatible for two other consoles, thus driving the price up for that extra compatibility. So, while it's nice to have, it does increase pricing at the same time.
2. This I do agree with you on. Internet, while most people might see as a necessity and that "everyone has it," isn't wholly the case. This is by and large my biggest gripe with the Xbox One, and I cannot justify this new feature, so you've got me there.
3. That's the point though. Microsoft is trying to keep the money more in the devs and their own hands. When Gamestop sells used games, only Gamestop sees any of that money, and basically cheats the rest out of anything. I'm not saying this is the right way to go, but that is still a practice I am against.
4. Firstly, I assume you have a webcam and a microphone on your PC? Who's to say those aren't monitoring you already? (OMG conspiracy) But in all honesty, though I don't like the Kinect as a gaming peripheral, I do appreciate the technology behind it and admire what Microsoft is trying to create with it.
To your second point, that to me sounds like a whole mess of legal gobbledy gook. To have the Kinect shut down a movie simply because there are more people would be watching it sounds highly illegal and unethical to me and as evil as Microsoft can seem, I highly doubt they would do something like that. Besides, you bought the movie, so long as you're not charging admission, it's legal, so Microsoft can't stop you from having 30 people over to see it.
5. That's the point. It's the Xbox One, it's the only one you need. The PS3 and 360 were marveled last generation for being more than just gaming consoles. You could watch movies, you could stream Netflix, you could share photos. They were awesome! Now the Xbox One is adding in more features to make the system more than just a console and suddenly there's a backlash. Granted, I don't see the need for my own usage for all these extra features, but it still seems neat to me, and I don't understand why all of a sudden the concept of "more than a game console," is hated.
Those are just my two cents on the points you brought up. At the end of the day, I'd get a PS4 (after a Wii U and 3DS because Nintendo has more games that I need a console for), but that doesn't mean the Xbox One is a complete failure. I think it's still salvageable, though Microsoft is doing their best in ruining the last chances they have. All in all, it's up your guy's opinion and the games you play, and I hope the Xbox One can recover simply because the Xbox family has been so strong and made the industry better thus far.
MasterM wrote:1. The xbox one is not backwards compatible. Every 360 game you own will not work, and will never work on the xbox one. You will have to buy all new games.Yes, the XB1 is not backwards compatible, for good reason! The entire system has been completely redesigned from scratch, kind of hard to make a new operating system with the best tech and and still support old tech when it comes to consoles. Sure it sounds easy enough from a computer standpoint, but consoles run on quite a bit of different rules.
BadWolf wrote:Keep in mind the Xbox 360 will continue to be supported for another 4 yearsWhy do you need backwards compatibility when the system you are trying to go back to still has support for so long?

That is by far the silliest idea I have ever heard lol. If that isn't what you meant then I will put this out there:
Your Xbox One is always ready: Xbox One is designed to run in a low-powered, connected state. This means your system, games and apps are always current and ready to play-no more waiting for updates. This basically means it is always connected to your internet {wireless}, the 24 hour check is not a problem at all if your internet is always on as well because the check itself is as simple as a quick ping from your ISP. Keep in mind this may not always be the case, they may just toss out this feature altogether to make it more simple for 'gamers' with no internet.

Access your entire game library from any Xbox One-no discs required: After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend's house, you can play your games. Also -
Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this.So really, it is all up to the retailer, not Microsoft, in regards to used sales.

You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don't want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say "Xbox Off." When the system is off, it is only listening for the single voice command "Xbox On," and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you'll need to turn it back on for these experiences. So, in fact, the Kinect can be turned off whenever the user chooses, as it should be.

MasterM wrote:Sen, I can see that you're a fanboy and won't be persuaded. If you watched the video I linked, you will see where I am getting this from (the video was made in response to the XB1 conference, so your 'blown out of the water' comment is, as far as I can tell, erroneous. For starters, I am not a 'fanboy'. You, like many others, just seem to not understand the information given to you because it is not straight to the point. As such, I broke down the reasons why your argument was invalid through reason.
MasterM wrote:Point 1: The system has been totally redesigned, and the 360 will be supported for another 4 years. That's...not all that long. Sure it seems long now, and undeniably 4 years is a decent chunk of time, but eventually it will end, and you'll want to play all those old nostalgic games you spent hours on in high school, but you can't. That's my main issue. I mainly only play my one console (a ps2) for the nostalgia of the old games I have, and I have a decent amount of ps1 games I enjoy playing as well (air combat, FF tactics etc.). Without backwards compatibility, you lose all of that.4 years is more than enough time for you to play your games, I still have my PS2 in fact. So better thought process, who said you had to get rid of your old system, nobody is forcing you. The importance behind the continued support is to still provide new games so people stuck with a 360 wont feel left out.
MasterM wrote:Point 2: You seem to have misinterpreted what I am saying and missed the mark. My internet goes out a lot (it was out most of today in fact) and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So, in the absence of the internet, I cannot play most of my pc games. Thus, I will sometimes turn to my ps2 and play some game there, since it requires no connection. What I have read says that the xbox one makes a connection check every 24 hours, and if no connection is found it essentially shuts down. So if the internet is out, and I want to play my xbox one, I only have 24 hours in which I am able to play my xbox one.You should check out this article: http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/19/tech/gami ... index.html
Also, you seem to have a large amount of disdain for "'gamers' with no internet". Seriously? I have just said my internet goes in and out, and you have to consider other things, like the ISP screwing up or your router breaks or all sorts of circumstances. Any one of these will shut down your xbox one after 24 hours.
MasterM wrote:Point 3: The no discs thing is neat, but games are still locked to your account (I said hard drive originally, my mistake) as your citation confirms. Therefore, I cannot let a friend simply borrow the game, I must be there in person to log in to my account and let him play it. Your other quote about the used games I don't remember seeing, is that from the conference as well? I don't remember it at any rate. What I heard was that you would be able to sell the access keys from used games back to microsoft, which they would then sell again. To quote a friend of mine, whom actually works at Gamestop:
MasterM wrote:Point 5: I have no idea where you are pulling this 'sacrifice a goat' thing from. That is not at all what I was trying to communicate. My point was that the xbox one allows you to watch tv, and that strikes me as rather dumb since I can watch tv without an xbox one. I don't mind that it plays dvd's and such, because that hardware is extraneous and you don't necessarily have that, but you have to have a tv to play xbox, so why is the tv a feature of the xbox, do you get me? You say the tv/movie features are secondary, but if I remember correctly one of the big things they hyped at the conference was some sort of package deal with NFL games >.> Sure they have exclusives and whatever but so does ps4, it's not really a clear-cut advantage.Again, to quote a friend from Gamestop:
MasterM wrote:Xbox one seems to be losing focus on the games, not necessarily steering away from them. The 360 focused on the games and the gamer, and was a good console because of it. The xbox one is branching out, but if you spread out your resources over more area, it will be a thinner layer, right? It's like they're spreading out to more stuff, but as a result the stuff they used to do well (the gaming experience) will consequently suffer in quality, or so it seems to me.The entertainment genre of service and technology doesn't work like pizza dough, it can spread as far as it wants and still maintain a uniform control over said area. Business is only as weak as its marketing, XB1 may be weaker than PS4 right now, but they haven't released the console yet, giving them plenty of time to improve whatever may be wrong.
