You don't have to if you don't want to, but this is a petition to save youtube-mp3.org. Youtube-mp3.org is a website that allows you to download music from youtube videos and google.inc is trying to stop this. This site needs 559,744 more people to sign. So, if you wish, please do sign for the future of youtube-mp3.

There's a very very very very very very very very very very very very very large difference between using Sound Recorder whilst playing a song through your speakers and actually having the original MP3 of the song.

Not only that, the reason why this site is better then others, is because it can convert a video almost instantly.

Whenever I use fetchvideo.com (or savemedia.com) to get music, the quality is always extremely poor - even if that audio has be loaded with so-called HD. It's nothing compared to even a 128bit mp3. I'm not going to comment on the actual rights of who owns the media and whether it's legal (from Google's perspective) to download from youtube, just, it's not worth it.

I've also used VDownloader, SpeedBit Video download, etc., and I suggest getting something like Tribler which is a peer-to-peer bittorrent client (note: bittorrent traditionally requires a torrent server, this uses P2P technology to behave as that "server" - very clever) to source your music.

@Key
Example? I've been doing that for years and it sounded just as good as the video version on youtube :\

[OnTopic]

I use Firefox and I have at least 2 add-on that allow me to get an .MP3 of the audio in Youtube videos:
YouTube mp3 1.0.4
Easy YouTube Video Downloader 6.5

Do a search for those in the Firefox add-on page.

I wouldn't call it pirating since the videos are already publicly put out for the public, just a matter of downloading the mp3.

Then you obviously don't understand the definition of "pirating" or at least, what the music companies define as pirating.

Bottom line is: if you didn't pay for the work that they own, it's illegal.

As you are the Original Poster this can't be a hijack - so, just because something is attainable doesn't mean you can possess it. For instance, it is actually illegal to record shows off the TV due to copyright. How you would hope to understand it and what is the actual law are rarely the same thing.

Google have pursued web sites offering this service, which doesn't show the law, but it does show Google's perception of it.

A video uploaded to Google by it's owner trusts that its for youtube use alone, unless they directly specify a download feature. An art museum won't allow you to take photographs of the art in the public gallery.

That Google fight against 3rd party software getting the content they hold, which could also be obtained through Google Checkout means they don't think it's legal, and it contravenes the end user's Terms of Service, but because it's the web service compromising the TOS for the benefit of the end user, means they haven't been able to make it stand up in court.

It also occurs to me that we do not promote illegal activities on the forums. Sorry Manda, I have to lock this.
