Greetings to you all, from a very old friend

Hello everyone.

I'm really not sure what to add after 'everyone'. I initially wanted to add 'new and old', but it has honestly been so long that everyone, save for a few familiar names, is new to me.

Before I continue my greetings, I feel it would be rude not to introduce myself, and offer some background information to go with the introduction. In KR I was (am?) known as Fluffy, and I played a part in forming KR many, many years ago. The details have been lost during the tumultuous beginnings of this clan, but I do believe KR was born around mid-2004. (If anyone wants the full scoop from my hazy memory, I'll try my best to oblige)

Fast forward to late 2007. With blessings from Raven, Ronin, Phoenix and Starcomand, I officially relinquished my position on the KR Council due to increasing responsibilities in my life. Eventually in early 2009 I simply disappeared from KR altogether. Regretfully, KR just slowly slipped from my life, and I didn't even formally say goodbye.

Over the past 7 years I've visited the forums only a handful of times, and this is the first time in 3 years that I've stayed for more than 5 minutes. I don't know what possessed me to come here again, but I think the closest analogy would be akin to checking up on a long-forgotten acquaintance on Facebook.

To be honest, when I entered knights-reborn.org into the address bar I was expecting an empty webpage. After all, it's been 12 years, and 12 years on the Internet is about equivalent to 2 human lifetimes. I was surprised to see the front page as it always was, but a little disappointed that the forums appears to have changed. I don't know why, but this piqued an interest in me. I knew it was likely that everyone and everything I remembered about KR would have changed. New faces, new rules, new culture. But I needed to know, so I started digging around everywhere I could. As I learned about the current state of KR, I realised that I was right about the new faces, but wrong about the rules and culture.

Everything is still as it was on the day I departed without saying goodbye.

I assumed that the new management had purged the old forum records (as I said, it's been 7 years, a lifetime on the Internet) so I tried to register an account, only to find that my account from 10 years ago is still active!! Honestly, I haven't been this shocked in a while. My curiosity was bursting, and I frantically dug through the forums, old and new, to relive what I had done here so many years ago, and discover what I had missed the last few years. This is the part where I tell you that I had tears rolling down my cheeks, but unfortunately I am a party pooper, so there were no tears. Just a rush of memories and emotions.

The memories gave me a huge dose of nostalgia. The emotions... are harder to describe. I can't believe that after 12 years you are all still here. Who still plays a video game so fervently 12 years after its first release? And there's so many of you still, all here together?! That is simply unbelievable!! Looking beyond that amazing fact; the respect, integrity and culture that this clan was founded upon still thrives to this day. It is being upheld by possibly the greatest group of people I have ever met.

I am so proud to have been a part of this clan, and I just want to thank you all for everything you have done to keep the spirit of this clan strong.

In particular, I can't express how touched I am that my name is still remembered to this day. In all honesty I expected to be forgotten, another detail lost to history. But to be made an honorary member is, as the title suggests, a great honor. I won't name names, because I'm going to embarrass myself for leaving out at least one person, but I want to thank you all in particular, for remembering me after all these years.

As for what I'm doing here. It really was just a case of sticky-beaking, which turned into an expression of appreciation, awe and gratitude. It would be nice to reconnect with a few old friends, and make some new ones in the process. I don't intend to apply to join KR, as life is still serving me up surprises every day, and I don't have a copy of JA handy at this stage. If I am welcome here I would like to hang around on occasion to socialise.

So, I really don't know how to close off this post. It was unexpected, and I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks so much for your time, and maybe I'll get to speak with you all soon!

KR has a sun that will never die, 2 lifetimes is nothing, cause the only way we're going down is if the game goes down. It's an honor to meet you, one of the people to breathe life into the undying sun. Hope to meet you on server sometime for now Welcome Back!

Awww Fluffy, super great to hear from you obviously <3

in fact, we've only ever met on server once, and quite a few years ago too!

And for every one's sake, Fluffy has full access to the forums, she can see Council posts, so when she was digging around there is a lot to go through!

As a fifth generation council member myself (and the longest serving of that generation) Its also very good to hear that we have maintained the standards and traditions established with the birth of this clan.

The front of the webpage hasn't changed because we lost control of it several years ago! Which is why it says we are 5 years old when in fact we are well over 10 years old!! Phoenix is unreachable so much of the site no longer works: the gallery, the server tracker page, the downloads. We can only do the News and Forums! I think if we had the means of re-registering knights-reborn.org we would have moved the site to a place where the current council could maintain it - but it was more important for us to keep the domain than to make it flashy (no pun intended, except what RaVeN made here).

Pho did the new forums a few years ago (2014 Council thread, Members Only thread), due to security flaws in the phpbb we were running then, and we couldn't duplicate the look of the [second] original forums (as we also wanted to support mobile devices too) - so this is the look we settled on. He also transferred the posts to this forum from that one, thus your account and your posts from there!

I know all of us are interested in our heritage, so please Fluffy if you have the time can you scratch around that memory of yours and see how you go filling in the blanks for us. I am sure we would all appreciate that.

Finally, JKA is open source and there is a github project (OpenJK) which allows it to run cleanly on modern hardware (the assets are not there though). Also if you did want to play again (knock that rust off your dual sabers) please let me know as I have links to where you can get the CD .iso images.

Fluffy, if there is anything I would say to you, it'd be "thank you". The clan of KR is indeed a great one, and I have been loyal to the clan for nearly...uh, a couple years. (idk, 6? I think I joined the server around 2010...). Either way, thanks for partaking in founding this clan, it's been great, and welcome back to the forums! :)

Hello there Fluffy! I can guarantee that I am a new face to you!

Also, I thought that Honorary members were still considered KR members, and you wouldn't have to apply to come back! I know Kane visited us a few years ago for a time, and he fit in well as just one of the family, as new as it must have been for him!

I'm happy to share the culture and standard you helped set forth for the clan, and I hope it assures you that no amount of years between our involvement in this clan can separate our devotion to it's survival ^^

Yup, as Uscari said, you already are a member! Honorary is the hidden rank between Master and Ambassador, with the added bonus that you have council admin - and are free to post in the council forums :)

@Jawa Thank you for your optimism. It's a pleasure to meet you too. I hope to set aside some time to meet you on the server in the following weeks.

@Frog Redstar You actually made me laugh. I can feel your enthusiasm just by reading!! Keep it alive!! =D

@Falcon Thank you kindly my dear. When I first saw your name on the Jedi Council, I didn't believe it was the same Falcon I remembered from so many years ago! We spoke very little, but somehow I still remember you. I have to thank you for everything you have done for KR over these years. We must speak again =)

@Zaluk Yes the 'you guys are still here?' feeling is indescribable. I'm so glad you are a part of what amounts to a giant surprise to me. The least I can do is show my appreciation. Talk again soon!

@Rogue Hi!! Much greetings!!

@Mandalorian I'm not sure I need to be thanked. I did wander off on my own without even leaving a goodbye note. If anything I should be thanking you for continuing to support this clan!

@Mnsomc Thanks for the warm welcome!! I also see you've just joined KR. I'm not sure if it's still ongoing, but we used to have this rite of passage of sorts for folks like you. The best advice I can offer is just relax when it happens.

@Uscari Thank you for the reassurance. I'm sure it always has, and will always be pleasant here, thanks to dedicated people like yourself. I look forward to seeing you too!!

@MasterM I'm sorry I'm running out of unique things to say. How about I look forward to seeing you too!!

@John Hi John. I like how you made it easy for me to respond =D

@Thunderbird Yep, you're here because of a fur ball. You're definitely in the running for 'best origin story'!

@HolyWarrior Thank you!! Does the table have free food? Can't say no to free food!!

@Jawfin Sorry I had to leave you til last Jaws. You nearly wrote as much as I did, and you even added links. I can't possibly top that. But thank you for taking the time to bring me up to speed about some of the changes that have been made. The forums That animation Raven did is a spectacle. I remember she showed me back in '09, it was animated up the KR logo moving in front of the black sun. So happy to see it completed!!

The forums look just fine. I saw that the content has been preserved in pristine condition, and that's what matters. There is so much history and wisdom buried there. I will tentatively oblige to your request regarding the origins of this clan, although I can't promise a visceral and gripping story, just the facts as best as I can recall.

Finally, I am keen to hop onto the KR servers. Would you know the best way to run JA on "hardware named after a piece of fruit"? If not I'll go dust off my other Windows machine.

Thanks again for your time everyone!!

Ah, fruity hardware *sigh nubs*. Rav runs apple, and um, one of my Padawans did (Downcast), but sadly I cannot help with this, and my links to CD image downloads will be equally useless. Does Apple have steam? Because you can buy the game for like $10 if it does. Not sure what else you could do there except perhaps Googling for a solution.

With the logo, it was never incorporated into the website due to Pho being unavailable by the time it was completed. I especially loaded that up to my webpage to show you (and others) what Rav had done!

Thanks so much, it is much appreciated!! I will look into Steam. I think I saw a Steam forum below, I will find a way =)

I'm surprised Rav hasn't beaten your head in with her piece of fruit. Lol

Steam definitely runs on macs, though I am not sure how well the game itself would run, having never tried it. If it runs well, this would probably be the easiest solution, albeit you would be out $10.
