As ZibZab said, he has to be made Adept first.
The master can promote his padawan to the rank of Adept after 4 weeks of passing their Jedi trial. The master can chose their own trial, or not even, if they so desire. Note that once Adept the student does not need his master's permission to do the Knights trial - being 3 weeks after the Adept promotion. That means be very sure of your padawan's skill before promotion to Adept!!
To avoid confusion I'll lock this thread and Xero can post Shippo's promotion to Adept when he is comfortable in doing so.
